Indonesian Festival 2011 Los Angeles

Greetings from Wonderful Indonesia of the Los Angeles Indonesian Festival 2011, an annual event to commemorate our independence organized by Indonesian Consulate General and Community in Los Angeles on July 16, 2011. This year’s festival is aimed at commemorating 66 years of Indonesian Independence.  The theme of the festival, A presentation of Wonderful Indonesia for LA and Its surroundings, is indeed in line with our national strategic-positioning new branding namely “Wonderful Indonesia.”

The festival presents more than 20 groups of Indonesian traditional dancers, including groups from Jakarta. It also exhibit skillful musicians playing unique traditional musical instruments from Indonesia such as Javanese and Balinese Gamelan and North Sulawesi Kolintang. Also, scheduled to perform are some local talents and well-known Indonesian singers to perform from Indonesian Pop to keroncong and dangdut.

The festival also introduces various business and tourism opportunities from the expo of both Indonesian services and goods. A fashion show of the well-known batik brand will also take part in this event. In the meantime, the display of keris (traditional Indonesian sword) and contemporary batik will certainly enrich the event from the perspective of cultural heritage. The festival has also been a medium for local Indonesian restaurants to give opportunity to all attendees to experience amazing cuisines of our country.

Los Angeles Indonesian Festival 2011 is a fabulous show case of Indonesian cultural performance, bazaar cuisine and expo which is tremendously supported by the City of Los Angeles, as well as sponsors and donators of the event.

Simposium 2011 Los Angeles, di KJRI LA.

Acara Simposium 2011 ini bertujuan sebagai wadah pemikiran dalam rangka mendiskusikan masalah kemacetan di Jakarta. Simposium 2011 ini juga akan merupakan forum komunikasi antar akademisi dan mahasiswa dari berbagai disiplin ilmu demi mencapai satu tujuan bersama yaitu memperkaya dan memperluas wawasan dalam pemecahan sebuah masalah multi-dimensional. Kami juga turut mengundang perwakilan dari PERMIAS – PERMIAS sekitar Los Angeles untuk berpartisipasi dalam acara ini.

PERMIAS Los Angeles Symposium 2011 aims to collect a collective thoughts & collective discussions in order to oversee the congestion problem in Jakarta. Symposium 2011 will also be a forum of communication between academics and students from various disciplines in order to achieve a common goal of enriching and broadening the solution of a multi-dimensional problem. We also invite representatives from other PERMIAS around Los Angeles to participate in this event. We would love to welcome anybody, especially students to participate, to be involved and to be part of this humble effort to inspire the people and the government of Indonesia to the potential solutions to the traffic congestion in Jakarta from diverse perspectives (economic, social, engineering, etc.). In contrast to many cities in developed countries, why do cities in Indonesia seem so unmanageable and unorganized over time? What should be the ideal developments of cities in Indonesia in the 10 and 20 years?”

Topic: “Solusi Teknis Praktis untuk Masalah Kemacetan JMA (Jakarta Metropolitan Area). Laju pertumbuhan jumlah mobil yang jauh lebih cepat dari luas jalan menghasilkan kemacetan yang sangat parah dan merugikan lingkungan, waktu, energi, dan uang. Masalah kemacetan di Jakarta dapat dikurangi dengan beberapa cara teknis dan dapat diterapkan secara serempak, tetapi tanpa menambahkan kemacetan pada saat penerapannya itu sendiri dan tidak memakan banyak biaya. Beberapa cara2 adalah penerapan jalan satu arah selang-seling jalan, penggunakan “smart lane”–yaitu perubahan jumlah jalur tergantung kepada “peak hour”, “bi-articulated” bus, “electronic toll pay”, “Kuningan-Sudirman dedicated shuttle”, dan “park ‘n ride”.”

Topic: “Technical Solutions to the Practical Problems of Congestion JMA (Jakarta MetropolitanArea). The rate of growth in the number of cars that much faster than wide roads that generate severe congestion and harm to the environment, time, energy, and money. Problems in Jakarta’s traffic jams can be reduced in several ways technically and can also be applied simultaneously, but without adding to congestion at the time of application itself and not costly. Some ways are the application of a one-way alternating way, the use of”smart lane” - that is the changing of the number of channels depends on the ”peak hour ”,”bi-articulated ”bus,” electronic toll pay ”,” Kuningan-Sudirman dedicated shuttle ”, and”park ’n ride ”.

Indonesian “Culture” Night is an annual event at UCLA presented by Indonesian Bruin Student Association at UCLA in collaboration with Indonesian Student Consortium in Los Angeles (PERMIAS).

ICN 2011 brings together TWO uniquely creative concepts:

(1) Drama Play Performance: with a workplace-centric storyline. The story is about an American expatriate from Los Angeles working in Indonesia, where she has to live through a journey of learning about the social environment, reconciliation of her differing values and her adaptation to a new culture and environment. This realistic illustration of the Indonesian work experience can excite you all to learn more about Indonesia.

(2) Showcase Exhibition: an array of closely-related exhibits expand on an overarching theme of a “home”. A “home” is a universal human theme and it brings an immediate connection to its inhabitants and those connected to them. We simulate a typical Indonesian home, which consists of 6 rooms (living room, dining room, bedroom, study room, game/music room and bathroom). We allow you all to have hands-on encounters, where all can instantly visualize how the Indonesian culture and atmosphere fits into your own respective homes.

Sinopsis:

Film ini adalah sebuah cerita mengenai sekelompok kadet heroik yang bergerilya di pulau Jawa pada tahun 1947.

Terpecah oleh rahasia-rahasia mereka di masa lalu, dan konflik yang tajam dalam hal kepribadian, kelas sosial dan agama, keempat lelaki muda bersatu untuk melancarkan sebuah serangan nekat terhadap kamp tawanan milik Belanda, demi menyelamatkan para perempuan yang mereka cintai.

Para kadet ini terhubung dengan kantor pusat Jendral Sudirman dimana mereka diberi sebuah tugas sangat rahasia di belakang garis musuh di Jawa Barat: sebuah serangan gaya komando pada lapangan udara vital yang dapat membalikkan perlawanan para pemberontak melawan kezaliman yang telah dilakukan Jendral Van Mook pada Agustus 1947. Menembus dalam ke hutan, mereka bertemu dengan kelompok lain dari separatis Islam, juga sekutu baru maupun yang potensial berkhianat: mata-mata kolonial dengan pangkatnya sendiri dan sekutu orang-orang sipil dari jalanan; dan musuh lama yang bertanggung jawab atas intelijen Belanda.

Terkepung, baik oleh musuh dari luar maupun dari dalam, para pahlawan harus bersatu dan saling percaya karena mereka berjuang demi mengejar satu tujuan: Kemerdekaan.

Sinopsis:

Maida adalah gadis kikuk yang idealis. Ia mengelola sekolah bagi anak jalanan di sebuah bangunan tua yang terbengkalai. Disulapnya sisi dalam bangunan rongsok itu bagai istana putri salju dan para kurcaci. Meja dan bangku dibuat dari sisa kayu. Perlengkapan kelas dibuat bersama dari barang bekas.

Pada suatu hari, seorang pengusaha membeli kavling itu dan hendak mengubahnya menjadi sentra bisnis. Maida dan sekolah liarnya terancam terusir. Maida berjuang keras untuk mempertahankan istananya.

Dalam perjuangannya, Maida justru menyibak misteri rumah tua tersebut. Bangunan itu adalah saksi bisu atas kisah cinta yang syahdu dan tragis antara dua insan di tengah perjuangan kebangsaan dan kemerdekaan Indonesia.

Melalui tokoh Maida, film ini bercerita tentang Indonesia masa kini. Tentang perjuangan seorang gadis muda yang idealis untuk mendirikan sekolah gratis.

Melalui kisah cinta seorang penerbang dan penyanyi di masa kemerdekaan, film ini berkisah tentang nilai-nilai kebangsaan yang diperjuangkan para pendiri negeri ini.

Although the Indonesian government has sent medical supplies and doctors to villages all over Indonesia by opening up small clinic (Posyandu), but the reality is that the program did not go as well as it should be to the fact that there are still A LOT of poor people that did not get reached…

In this event, all the money that we will get will all be used to provide a free health care (”Balai Pengobatan), including medication, and free doctors service for them. In planning this, we are partnering with “Atlas Medical Pioner” organization from Padjadjaran University (nursing major) in Bandung. They will be our PIC in Indonesia for organizing this free healthcare event.
